La Maison Solaire is situated in the beautiful Vaucluse/Luberon area of Provence, South Eastern France. The area is not far from the Swiss and Italian borders and the historic cities of Avignon (45mins drive) and Aix en Provence (60 mins drive) are nearby. It is a mountainous region with a Mediterranean climate, and green fertile valleys with steep sides and picturesque hilltop villages.
The countryside is an ever changing pallet of colour. Cherry blossom covers the hillsides in spring. Lavender, vines, olive groves, fruit and vegetables provide a rich patchwork of hues in the fields through the summer. Paths through the limestone hills lead walks amongst juniper, cypress, pine, oak and wild thyme.
La Maison Solaire is an architect-designed house, originally designed to be heated by solar power. It sleeps seven and has a swimming pool and sun terrace.Facing south west the secluded site commands superb views across valley of the Pay d’Apt to the mountains of the Luberon in the south and the historic villages of Gordes and Roussillon. A short drive north will take you to Mont Ventoux and the Drome.
The locality has a wide variety of excellent restaurants and cafes, offering haute cuisine to country fare. Recreational activities including walking, hot air ballooning, golf and fishing can all be found in the vicinity. There are many historic sites and points of cultural interest including studios of artists (potters and painters).
